Position Overview:
As a Instructional Technology Support Specialist at Galen College of Nursing, you will provide direct support to an assigned academic department or campus to assist Faculty, Program Directors, Department Chairs, and Deans in the utilization of classroom technology, configuring and maintaining web-enhanced and online courses, provide technical assistance for the course staging process, and weekly maintenance and monitoring of web-enhanced and online courses. Additional primary duties include implementing LMS applicable, CRF approved course changes such as revising course content pages, rubrics, gradebook configuration, and other LMS native content. Ensures course standards are met as part of continues quality improvement standards such as student success, faculty retention, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- In direct service of an academic department, collaborate with deans, faculty, and instructional design team to ensure that courses are accessible and functional for faculty and students.
- Provide staging course setup support to online faculty.
- Review staging courses using the staging course checklist criteria.
- Review live, master, and staging courses for accuracy as compared to the syllabus. Communicate with faculty and dean when inaccuracies are identified and make revisions as directed.
- Finalize staging and master courses, making sure that the layout of each course is consistent with programmatic expectations and key components are present (syllabus, course maps, etc.).
- Update basic content in courses as directed (make revisions to gradebook, rubrics, course outcomes, student learning outcomes, reading assignments, etc.).
- For ground-based positions, provide support for computerized testing and instructional classroom technology.
- Works closely with the online team and the ground campus administration in support of applications utilized by faculty in the delivery of online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses.
- Utilize critical thinking and prioritization skills, to ensure that the online courses and projects are completed in a professional and timely manner.
- Identify patterns where there are gaps in the faculty’s compliance with Galen’s staging course and facilitation expectations as needed.
- Provide direct support to faculty for hosting web conferences.
- Direct faculty to current technical and college-wide resources (i.e., Online Library, LMS, Screencast-O-Matic, ERC, etc.).
- Create technical support and “How-To” video to assist faculty and students.
- Maintain records and prepare weekly, monthly, and annual reports as directed.
- Document current and new processes.
- Course monitoring for basic facilitating expectations.
Position Requirements:
- Education: A minimum of an Associate’s Degree; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years’ experience working with a learning management system. Previous learning management technical support or information technology support experience in higher education desired.
- Special Qualifications: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Working knowledge of HTML. Must have excellent interpersonal, written, oral and technical skills. Must be highly organized with the ability to work in a team environment, multitask, and prioritize projects. Flexible schedule to provide occasional weekend support, scheduled around term starts. Ability to demonstrate initiative, critical thinking, and effective communication skills while responding to multiple priorities and demands. Must be internally motivated, have a strong sense of urgency and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Physical/Mental Demands & Work Environment: Must be able to sit at a computer desk for up to eight (8) hours per day
- Degree of Supervision: Minimal.
