A desirable opportunity exists for a conscientious Speech Pathologist to join our growing team on a full-time, temporary basis (six months) with the possibility of extension and/or permanency. New graduates are welcome to apply as well as more experienced clinicians seeking to further their skills in the acute setting. Appointment will be made at HP1 or HP2 level depending on skills, experience and suitability. About the Role:
As a Speech Pathologist at North Canberra Hospital, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to inpatients with communication, swallowing and feeding difficulties. This role involves working across the hospital’s wards as well as providing outreach services to Clare Holland House, a nearby hospice.
In this dynamic and innovative environment, you will:
- Provide evidence-based assessment and intervention for a variety of complex caseloads including stroke, critical care, general medicine, neonatology and palliative care.
- Utilise contemporary technologies such as Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Study and Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing.
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure care is person-centred, ethical and culturally responsive.
- Contribute to quality improvement and service development initiatives.
- Support junior clinicians and/or students, commensurate with your level of experience, helping to foster a strong learning culture.
You’ll be supported to achieve your professional goals through regular clinical supervision, high-quality professional development activities, performance feedback and staff wellbeing resources.

- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

A merit pool may be established from this recruitment process and will be used for the next 12 months to fill various positions both on a temporary and permanent basis with full-time and part-time opportunities available.
This is a temporary position available for a period of 6 months with the possibility of extension up to less than 12 months and/or permanency.
